The Rack

 

The Rack, located at 1809 W. Platt Street in Tampa, is described on their website as a ‘classic American neighborhood bar and restaurant,’ and that’s exactly what it seems. Around 9 p.m. when I arrived, the place was already crowded with people eating and at the bar. I decided to grab a seat outside on the deck, which should be taken advantage of especially in Florida in October (warm nights.) Inside, there are multiple rooms that include pool tables, bar seating, and regular seating. Music is played in the background while you eat ranging from top 100 hits to country.

Just  by looking at the menu, The Rack is known for its bar drinks and sushi, but I decide to try something safe by ordering chicken tenders and Mac & cheese since I don’t really drink alcohol or eat sushi out. The waitress was real friendly – from finding out if I could substitute sides to checking in with us every so often.

Dinner for two:
(2) Chicken Tenders with fries – 13.98
(1) Mac & Cheese – 2.99
(2) Soda - $4.50
Total: $23.05 including tax.

Depending on which day you go, The Rack offers different specials. On Sunday night, for example, if you work in the hospitality industry and show them your hospitality card & ID, you get 50 percent off any full priced item!

They also offer many events taken place during the week such as football viewings.

Positives: Food is reasonable priced and good. Friendly servers come back often to see how you are doing often. Family and College student atmosphere. Good for a first date or with friends. Known for its sushi and drinks. Not noisy for a bar.

Negatives: The parking lot is small & valet for what seems like no reason. The price you pay for parking comes off your meal but still I don’t see a reason for having it. If you dont want to do it, you have to park away from the restuarant. It's also crowded at times, but that means the place is actually worth going to.
